.: dx50 is fourcc code for the DivX5.xx codec - you can download the Standard free DivX 5.1 codec from here:

If you had trouble installing it I would suggest that you go to control panel - add and remove programs - and see if it lists an installation

for the DivX Codec - if so I would first remove it and then try a reinstallation.

If it s not listed in add/remove programs then only if you have had problems with a new installation in controll panel go to system then click on the hardware tab then click on device manager -- scroll down to sound, video and game controllers and click on the plus then right click on video codecs and click on properties then click on the properties tab of the box that opens and see if you have DivX.dll listed as one of the video codecs - if so then I would highlight it and click on remove --- Once that has been done then you should be able to reinstall the codec from the dl obtained from the site above.

I have been having the same type of problem with my DivX player. I try watching an episode of Invader Zim and the player says that the episode was encoded with the DX50 fourcc codec. After that, I looked up DX50 codec and found this and did what Duck said. I uninstalled everything DivX I had installed and reinstalled them. Again, it said the DX50 codec was missing.

Even after doing everything involving System within the control panel, and reinstalling again, the DX50 codec is still missing.

You may need to install a new video codec on your computer to watch this video.

i did every thing that duck suggested and it did nothing. yo duck got any other suggestions.. i m open to anything.

If concerned with the adware/spyware that comes with the free version of DivX 5.xx, try using the latest version of FFDShow-alpha this plays most DivX encoded files :

VLC www.videolan.org will also plays most DivX encoded files.

You know div x is very good but, it has adware and when you recieve your package your should delete gain, thats what downloads the popups when my popup blocker registered it it would dstroy it then it ll come up again so its endless be carefull people. If your comp is getting slower thats a sign.

I try to play some 1st Season X-File DVD rips on my Umax Yamada 6100 DVD/DivX player Tough luck Whoever encoded those did so using the dx50 FourCC Now why the fuck shouldn t they do a normal DivX or Xvid rip, normal as in don t fuck up with the default settings if you don t know shit about what you re doing kinda thing Why do they have to enable Q-PEL..

Thany You Duck, it worked a treat, just a helpful hint, on the d/load site be careful to click the right d/load. There are 3 D/load options-2 you pay for and one free DivX Pro. Don t choose them, but underneath them is Standard DivX Codec Free. Make sure you choose this one. This worked perfectly with my XP Prof and Media Player 9. Ta.

The free versions of DivX 5.xx available for download from www.divx.com ALL contain third party spyware Gator /adware. The reason for this is because they still make money from you as the third parties the companies like Gator give some money to the DivX codec creator.

There is no real reason to have any official DivX certified codec installed unless you plan on Ripping Encoding video content.

If you re looking for a way to just play DivX 5.xx video content try:

OK,videoLAN is working for me.I don t know if it will play the video that needed the dx50 because I gave up and deleted it but I do know that the FFDShow did not help.I ll get the MPlayer Win32.Won t hurt to be covered for next time.Anyone know how to split files in half or break them down or is that too complicated to explain.I download some movies but they re always too big to fit on one disc.

The ways of playing back different formats etc assume that the files are real, not fakes. To analyse the validity of a file install GSpot of AVICodec. Here s GSpot:

If you load the video, but there s a n/a under Video or Audio etc, then the file might be dubious.

Hmm. I know it is Halloween season, but it is not April Fools. Why the fuck does this company play with their shit so no one can work it. I dont know anything about DivX, but damn. My four year old niece can design shit better then them schmucks. I am going to try Duck s suggestion, cause I am too cheap to go buy Passion Of The Christ. Brief idea of problem

DVD not burning / playing, unable to open avi/mpeg/dvd files

I have just dicovered today that divx 5.2.x is NOT compatible with Windoze SP2, I uninstalled divx 5.2.x and reinstalled divx 5.1.1 and everything is working fine again. Hope this may help others who may now be bald with stress, took me all day but nailed the problem. .

Hi. i have a problem with two of my movies, i have bad boys II in which VLC only plays 7 seconds and then stops, and Blade III: Trinity, which plays 2 seconds before it stops. dx50; isnt all that difficult.

It needs:

- for videorendering: M -quartz.dll

- for audiorendering: M -quartz.dll and IIS-L3codecX.ax;

The M Quartz.dll comes with de default windows distribution MPEG1

The IIS-Level three codec frauenhofer comes with XviD.

So you d beter de-install stuff, because for DX50 - Merely the same as MPEG1 - you don t need much.

Handles MOST Audio and Video you will come across.

FFDshow use the open source code, so most of the individual filters use the same base code. Keep it Simple.

How can you be sure you didn t get Gain.

DX50 is found in the DivX Community Codec 6.5.1 which, as far as I know, is obtainable only inside the full DivX bundle. No matter where you go on the site, no matter what you try to download, you ll be downloading the full package, with all their bonus extras

Well i cant say I am happy. I have the latest xvid installed, along with latest ffdshow, and divx 5.1 tried the later ones and they did nothing to make the video play.

I checked the spec of the avi and it said it needed DX50 however for some unbelieveable reason no matter what i install, the video still refuses to play, however the sound is perfect. Maybe its just the asshole who ripped the the thing..divx sucks so badly compared to xvid. At l;east with xvid this shit dont happen period.

- DivX used to have adware bundled with it. This is no longer the case.

- DivX does however have a protection wrapper and quite a bit of stuff bundled with it. If you don t like it you can get an alternate codec like Xvid freeware - you have to enable it to decode the fourcc DX50 during install or 3ivx trialware, or an alternate filter like ffdshow or an alternate player like VideoLan.

- If you have the DivX codec or one of the others but you re still having trouble playing the file, chances are the file is truncated something gspot or avicodec links above will tell you. In that case use an alternate player like AVIPreview, Media Player Classic, or VideoLan.
